Fred Harmon Adams (Chief of Police)
Madison Police Dept, Madison, Ga.
By Lucas G.Adams, Savannah, GA

Chief Adams was shot multiple times on May 26, 1945, on a rainy morning in a malicious, yet misdirected assault. A local cafe owner, in a fit of despera-tion precipitated by a house fire, and a sick wife among other issues at the time, shot Chief Adams before the Chief could draw his 38. He died the following day at the local hospital from the gunshot wounds. The shooter had accidentally killed the wrong man that morning, sending himself to a year of prison, and a sad end in the electric chair.
