BENJAMIN AUGUSTUS BALDWIN

SAD DEATH IN MACON

Mr. B.A. Baldwin Passed Away on Sunday Night

Sunday night last at the Macon Hospital occurred the death of Mr. B.A. Baldwin, after a short illness from bowell trouble. Messrs. C.H. and W.W. Baldwin went to Macon Monday morning and brought the remains to Madison, carrying them to the home of Mr. Billie Baldwin, where the funeral occurred Tuesday morning at eleven o'clock. A large crowd assembled to pay tribute to the memory of this worthy man. The services were conducted by Rev. W.T. Irvine, and were appropriate and impressive. The pallbearers were Messrs. Tyner, Thompson, Wilson and Allen, members of the Macon police force, and Messrs. M.C. Few and Joseph Vason. The floral offerings were beautiful, many of them coming from Macon. Interment was in the family lot of the new cemetery.

Benjamin Augustus Baldwin was the first child of Captain Charles W. and Mrs. Annie Shepherd Baldwin, and was born in Madison October 9th, 1866, being in the 42nd year of his age. When a young man, he married Miss Annie Moseley, of Putnam County, who with seven children survive him. The children are Annie May, Louise, Charles, Blount, Sarah, Albert and Cecil. There are also four brothers--Messrs. Shepherd, Charlie, Billie, and Pierce Baldwin.

The deceased lived in this county until about six years ago, when he moved with his family to Macon. For the past four years, he had been a member of the police force of that city, and the Macon papers and people testify to his faithful and courageous discharge of every duty. Changes in city administration did not affect his term of office, his efficiency and worth as an officer placing him beyond the pale of municipal politics. His companions say he was always a brave and true officer, and an honest and upright man and citizen. Especially from the family circle will he be missed, being a kind and indulgent husband and father. He joined the Methodist church in early life.
