James Dewey "Jimmie" Hagin Jr.
James Dewey Hagin, Jr of Madison, died June 17, 2017. Mr. Hagin was born December 23, 1940 in Statesboro to James and Mary Alice Brown Hagin.
He was a graduate of Marvin Pittman High School. He later graduated from Georgia Southern and then obtained his master’s degree and specialist’s degree from the University of Georgia.
Mr. Hagin taught for one year in Hazelhurst before moving to Madison in 1963. He then taught chemistry and physics and was also the D.C.T. coordinator before becoming principal of the high school. He also served as principal of the Primary School before being elected Superintendent of Morgan County Schools.
Mr. Hagin retired in 1996. During his tenure at the Morgan County Schools, he also served as the girls basketball coach. He was a long-time member of Madison Baptist Church where served as deacon emeritus. Mr. Hagin was also retired from the Army National Guard, where he reached the rank of Colonel. Mr. Hagin was active for many years in the Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Hagin was widowed by Dale Ranew Hagin. He is survived by wife Joyce Goode Hagin and children, Angie Miller and Jay Hagin & Amy. He leaves two step children, Shawn and Chris Reagan. Mr. Hagin leaves four grandchildren, Marshall, Brad, Taylor and Blake. He has one great grandchild, Rylee. Mr. Hagin is also survived by two sisters, Shelby Barnwell and Peggy Dedge.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4-6 PM at A.E. Carter Funeral Home and again on Sunday from 1-2:30 PM at Madison Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 3 PM at Madison Baptist. Interment will follow at the Madison City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Madison Baptist Church.
