Mary Watson Cunningham, age 91, died at her home in Madison, GA on Friday, November 18, 2016. 

 

She was born January 20, 1925 and grew up in Hawkinsville, Georgia.  She attended Georgia College for Women, now known as Georgia College and State University, which was then a college for those entering the teaching profession.  After graduation she taught in Thompson and Atlanta,GA.

On June 20, 1951, she married Joe R. Cunningham, a Madison native, WWII veteran, and a meat department manager at the local grocery store.  They opened The Grille, a short order restaurant in downtown Madison that later became Ye Olde Colonial Restaurant.  Mary and Joe had 5 children, William J. Cunningham, James F. Cunningham, John B Cunningham, Grace C. Lindsey, and Mary Ann Prior.  They had 12 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

Throughout her life she nurtured her family and friends with her great capacity for love.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, and her daughter, Grace.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 20th at 2:00pm, at A.E. Carter funeral home, followed by the funeral at 3:00pm.
