GRADY GILL

Mr. Grady Gill, 71, of Madison, passed away October 26, 2013 while engaging in one of his favorite pastimes, gardening in his back yard.


Mr. Gill was born June 2, 1942 to Thurman Northern and Sadie Williams Gill of Millerville, AL.  On June 2, 1963, he married his high school sweetheart Glynn Smith.  The following year he graduated from Auburn University and immediately moved to Madison to accept a position at Pennington Seed.  Over the last 49 years Mr. Gill was a member of the Lions Club, served on the boards of DeKalb Technical College and Athens Technical College, the Morgan Memorial Hospital Authority and was a supporter of the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center.  Mr. Gill remained active at Pennington Seed until his death.

 

Aside from gardening, Mr. Gill enjoyed fishing, playing tennis and watching wild birds.  He was devoted to his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren.  Nearly every Sunday you could find “Papa” enjoying dinner at the Mexican restaurant with his grandkids.


Mr. Gill is survived by his wife, Glynn and two sons, Chanin & Sloan (Julie), his grandchildren, Allison, Everitt, Sam and Ben and two step grandchildren, Justin and Jordan.  He is also survived by his sister Betty Jean and brothers, James, Darrill and Gerald, as well as his mother-in-law, Berlie Robinson Dick.  Mr. Gill also leaves behind many close friends and his Pennington Seed family.


Mr. Gill was laid to rest Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Madison City Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center in honor of Grady Gill.
