Obituaries: About

George Clifton Hanes, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Madison surrounded by his loving wife and family on December 12, 2014. He was born May 20, 1926 in Hall County Georgia to Lester and Eula Hanes. The family moved to Morgan County in 1929. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country during World War II in the European theater. He was predeceased by his parents and five brothers and sisters.

 

Following the war George returned to the family farm in 1950 married the love of his life Dorothy Sue Sheppard. Together they raised five children. He and his family have been faithful lifelong members of Madison Baptist Church where he served on many committees throughout the years including chairing the Buildings and Grounds Committee and Pastoral Search Committee. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1964 and served as chairman of the Board of Deacons in 1986.

 

Survivors include his wife of 64 years Dorothy Hanes; sons Clifton (Carole) Hanes, David (Janey) Hanes; daughters Kathryn (Jim) Foskey, Carol (Larry) Seabolt and Ellen (Morgan) Beckham; grandchildren Jennifer Stewart, Robert Hanes, Dave Hanes, Ashleigh Pullin, Jameson Foskey, Shane Seabolt, Cody Seabolt, Caroline Cameron, Jackson Beckham, Davis Beckham; great-grandchildren Connar Pullin, Gibson Pullin, Hannah Calloway, Karli Seabolt, Bailey Seabolt, Katy Stewart, Eliza Stewart, Grayson Hanes and Marlee Cameron.

 

Family received friends Sunday evening from 5-8 p.m. at A. E. Carter Funeral Home in Madison. A Celebration of Life Service was held at Madison Baptist Church Monday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. Burial followed the service at Madison Memorial Cemetery.
