Mr. J.E. Lawrence Died on Sunday.
An Old and Honored Citizen Dies From Long Illness.

Was Buried in Madison Monday Afternoon.

Sunday last at his home in Mann district occurred the death of Mr. J.E. Lawrence, after an illness of several months. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at three o'clock, at Hemperley Chapel, conducted by Rev. W.S. Adams. A choir composed of Mrs. Richter, pianist, Mrs. Morgan, Mrs. Estes, Mr. Wise, and Mr. Atkinson sang "Abide With Me" and "Jesus Saves."

The following served as pallbearers. Seaborn, Evan, Bob and George Walker, Harold Fears and Hunter West.
Interment was in the family lot of Fairview Cemetery, W.C. Hemperley in charge.

The deceased was the oldest member of an old and distinguished Morgan county family. He was the son of Evan Lawrence and Mary Harwell, and was born at the old Lawrence home in Mann district October 16, 1860, being the 77th year of age. He was married three times, the last time to Miss Carrie Campbell, who survives him with two sisters - Mrs. W. H. Sisson of Denver, Col. and Mrs. Sherwood Atkinson, of Eumatillo, Fla.

A sister, Mrs. Lucy Fears, and three brothers -- Jerry, Ollie and Walter Lawrence, have passed away.

Mr. Lawrence was a man of high character, and always kept informed as to current events -- both civic and political. He was a great reader of books and newspapers.

He and Jno. B. Walker, who died more than a half a century ago, were great friends, though Mr. Lawrence was a much younger man. He knew much of the personal side of Mr. Walker, one of the most distinguished me of his time.
