Mr. Andrew Ainslie, Sr., age 88, of Madison, died on August 7, 2012. Mr. Ainslie was born on May 29, 1924 to James William Ainslie, Sr. and Mary M. Smith Ainslie. He was born in the family home place in the community formerly known as Dorsey.

Mr. Ainslie was proud of his heritage and connection to Morgan County. His great-great grandfather, William West was a Revolutionary War veteran and received property here through the federal land grant. He was an early settler of Morgan County, establishing his home here in 1813. One of Mr. Ainsile’s grandfathers was a Union officer in the Civil War. While advancing through Georgia, his company made camp just outside of Madison in a pecan grove. After the war, he purchased that pecan grove and moved his family here. That land is still part of the Ainslie home and farm.

Mr. Ainslie was a veteran of the United States Marines. He served during World War II. During the Korean Conflict, he was called up from the reserves and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in 1950. Mr. Ainslie was married to Mary Cantrell in November 19, 1949. He spent his career with the Georgia State Highway Department, while also operating his family farm. Mr. Ainslie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Madison. He enjoyed travelling and spending time with his family. He was a UGA fan and proud resident of Morgan county.

Mr. Ainslie is survived by his wife, Mary Ainslie and their children, Mary Jo Prescott & Ron of Jefferson, Andy Ainslie & Carolyn of Madison, Sally Porter & Dan of Buckhead and Beth Watkins & Mike of Watkinsville. Mr. Ainslie leaves grandchildren: hank Bailey, Carol Singletary, Sadie Carver, Jim Porter, Scott porter, Amy Cartilage, Wesley Watkins, Andrew Ainslie and Merritt Ainslie. Also surviving are 20 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 until 7 pm at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at the Madison City Cemetery on Thursday at 4 pm. Dr. Grady Mosley will officiate. Military honors provided by the American Legion.
