Mary Evelyn Loyd Allen, 86, died on November 22, 2010 at Athens Regional Medical Center with her children at her side.

The daughter of the late Marvin and Eunice (Crenshaw) Loyd, she was born in Newton County on July 20, 1924.

Her passion was playing bridge with her close friends. She also had a deep love for her family. Mrs. Allen was a homemaker but also assisted with the family business, Allen Implement and Seed Company. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Allen as well as a sister Carolyn Herring and a brother, Leo Loyd.

Mrs. Allen was a longtime resident of Madison but for the past 18 months she had resided at Family Life Enrichment Center in High Shoals. She was very happy there and received excellent care.​

Mrs. Allen is survived by her brother, Ray Loyd of Warner Robbins; a daughter, Sandra Allen of Norcross and two sons, Bill Allen (Angela) of Brasleton and Ben Allen (Carole) of Palm Coast, FL; five grandchildren, Christian, Ashley, Tiffany, Cooper and Michael; four great-grandchildren, Will, Abbey, Gavin and Annabell and numerous other family and friends.​

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:30 - 2:30 pm at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm at the Madison City Cemetery.​
