Robert H. Engle

On Thursday, December 7, 2017, Robert H. Engle, 85, passed away at his home in Madison, Georgia.

Born May 2, 1932, in Louisville, Kentucky, Bob was the son of the late Clarence and Mary Engle. Bob and his wife, Barbara, recently celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary. Bob is also survived by his brother, Clarence Engle and wife, Connie, of Louisville, Kentucky; four daughters, Terri Smith, Laura Schrader, Lisa Escobar, Sandi Bell; eight grandsons, Bobby Smith, Jason Smith, Nick Smith, Parker Schrader, Robert Schrader, Brett Bell, Bob Bell, Christian Escobar; and one great-grandson, Wiler Smith.

In 1954, Bob graduated in the first graduating class from Bellarmine College in Louisville, Kentucky. Although Bob was a Navy veteran and retired executive of Wellington Puritan Mills, his greatest pride throughout his life was his family. Inasmuch as he loved his wife and daughters, he loved his sons-in-laws, Roy Smith, Stan Schrader, and Davis Bell, as if they were his own. Life later blessed him with eight grandsons and a great-grandson, all of whom brought Bob immense joy.

Bob's hero in life was his brother, Clarence. Close as brothers can be, Clarence also served in the Navy flying Hellcat fighter planes during World War II.

Throughout Morgan County and extended communities, Bob was known as being a competitive tennis player and avid runner. More importantly were the smiles and conversations he shared with humanity. Loved and admired by people from all walks of life, Bob was led by his strong faith in God.

A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2017, 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church located at 562 Vine Street in Madison, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either St. James Catholic Church or Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.

We are honored to have A.E. Carter Funeral Home serve our family and friends.
