Ghislaine E. Germain
Ghislaine Germain, 73, of Bishop, GA, passed away on August 20th, 2024, one day before her
74th birthday.
Ghislaine Germain was born on August 21, 1950, to Marcel Etienne and Anne-Marie Jacques in
Gonaïves, Haiti. She graduated from SUNY Oneonta, proudly earning a Bachelor’s degree in
Liberal Arts and Sciences with a focus on French in 1978. Ghislaine also had the opportunity to
study abroad for a year at the Cité Universitaire de Nice in Paris, France—an experience she
cherished throughout her life.
A gifted communicator, Ghislaine was fluent in Haitian Kreyol, French, English, and Spanish.
She used her talents and compassion to help those in need, including her work as a Human
Rights Specialist for the New York City Commission on Human Rights. Later, she transitioned to
teaching at the University of Georgia and Morgan County High School, where she left a lasting
impression on her students’ hearts.
In 1973, Ghislaine met Tony Germain in college. The two married on September 17, 1977, and
went on to have four children: Dimitri, Pierre, Priscilla, and Mark. After retiring in June 2012,
Ghislaine spent her time gardening on her land with her husband, nurturing her grandchildren,
evangelizing, and mentoring.
Ghislaine Germain was predeceased by her parents, Marcel Etienne and Anne-Marie Jacques.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Tony Germain; her children, Dimitri, Pierre, Priscilla,
and Mark; her grandchildren, Jade, Arianna, Abriella, and Ariyah; and her siblings, Kharlos
Etienne, Marlene Menard, and Marcel Etienne.
Services will be held at A.E. Carter Funeral Home on September 5th at 10 a.m., with a repast to
follow.
