Obituary For Mattie M. Jones
Sunday, September 5, 2021 1:00 p.m. “The best portion of a good man’s life is his little nameless unremembered acts of kindness and of love.”
Mattie Mae Thomas was born on September 1, 1935 to Ms. Maybelle Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Jones, her mother and her children Gloria, Larry and Micheal.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Savior. She joined the McHughes Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. J.C. Ingram. Later in her life, she united with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mattie received her education at the Chestnut Grove Church School in Fairplay, Georgia.
Although Mattie worked for many years for Carwood Manufacturing Company in Monroe, GA, her most notable and enjoyable job was as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Madison Health and Rehabilitation Center.
There was camaraderie on Meadow Ridge Drive among the original neighbors and Mattie’s porch was a meeting place where the latest gossip, plenty of trash talking, and a lot of laughter took place. Mattie was fondly known as “Ma” to the guys who sat on her porch, Grandma and Granna to her grandchildren, Ms. Mattie to others, “Big T” to her kids and daughter to her heavenly Father. On Wednesday, September 1, 2021, He so graciously and lovingly called her home.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughters, Mrs. Meschele Clark and her husband Ralph and JoAnn Thomas; her grandchildren Jovan Sheats, Mrs. Diona Clyde and her husband Colin, and Brandon Gibbs; her great grandchildren Amyah Foster, Colin J. Clyde and Jamal Cobb; her bonus grandson Anthony Wade and a host of other relatives and friends.
“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.”
