Rebecca Lester Markwalter Ridgway

Rebecca Markwalter Ridgway was born November 27, 1911, in Warrenton, GA. She was the daughter of William Edward and Caroline Jarnagin Markwalter. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA, and a Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Georgia. She was a teacher for 30 years at Morgan County High School in Madison, GA where she was selected as Star teacher.

Mrs. Ridgway was a member of the Henry Walton Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as Registrar and Treasurer; National Society of Washington Family descendants; National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century; Morgan County Retired Teachers Association; Delta Kappa Gamma Society and a charter member of the GOSH Club. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Madison.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at 2:00 PM from the graveside in Madison Cemetery with Revs. Albert F. Turnell and Tom Kerr officiating.

Survivors include a daughter, Caroline Ridgway Felt, Manassas, VA; son, Robert H. Ridgway, III, Athens; 5 grandchildren, J. David Felt, Jr., Athens, Robert A. Felt, Portland, OR, Dennis E. Felt, Purcellville, VA, Rebecca F. Wenrich, Portland, OR and Jennifer E. Ridgway, Athens; 7 great grandchildren, John and Anderson Felt, Athens, Alexa Miles, Truett and Miles Felt, Portland, OR, Garret Wenrich, Portland, OR and Jennings Felt, Purcellville, VA.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
