Chester Spearman Stapp
Chester Spearman Stapp, 89 of Madison, died on December 6, 2010. Mr. Stapp was born on May 27, 1921 in Rutledge to Cary and Lottie Few Stapp. He was married to Latrelle Watkins and they made their home in Madison.
Mr. Stapp was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. He was involved in the landing on Omaha Beach and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. At the conclusion of World War II, Mr. Stapp returned home. He worked as farm manager for Mr. Bearden Chambers until he retired. He also drove a school bus for over twenty years. Mr. Stapp was a long time member and Deacon Emeritus of Madison Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #376 and the American Legion. He was a Past President of the Lion’s Club as well as a founder and former fire chief at the West Morgan Fire Department. He was active in delivering meals on wheels as long as he was able. Mr. Stapp also enjoyed transporting automobiles for Phil Cook Motors. His favorite times were those spent with his family. He was a committed father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was also a devoted husband, caring for his wife even while his own health was failing.
Mr. Stapp is survived by his wife, Latrelle Watkins Stapp and their three sons, Ronnie Stapp & Cindy, Jerry Stapp & Carol and Jimmy Stapp & Pam. Grandchildren are: Emily Boyer & Shane, Josh Stapp & Hillary, Jimmy Stapp, Jr., Kimberly Shoffer & David, Russell Stapp, Erin Peters & Jeffrey. Great Grandchildren are: Addison Boyer, Hollis Boyer, Hallie Stapp, Hannah Stapp, Owen Peters and Mary Morgan Peters. Mr. Stapp was preceded in death by: a daughter, Sheryl Denise Stapp; a granddaughter, Tara Stapp Herring as well as two brothers, John Stapp and Lamar Stapp.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 from 6 until 8 pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 11 am at Madison Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Madison Memorial Park Cemetery.
