Emma Estelle Hendrix Wood
Estelle Hendrix Wood, 99, formerly of Madison died December 16, 2005. Mrs. Wood was born July 9, 1906 in Jackson County to the late William and Nora Whetsel Hendrix.
She spent most of her life here in Morgan County. She was married to Henry Wood of Madison who preceded her in death. She worked for many years as a sales clerk for Friedman’s and Gallant Belk. Most recently she lived in Dallas to be near her children. She was a member of Madison Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday school Class. She was active at the Morgan County Senior Center while living here. She especially enjoyed quilting, which she continued to do into her 90s.
Mrs. Wood is survived by her four children, Juanita W. Pardue of Cleveland, Nora W. Goodman of Dallas, Danny Wood and Nancy of Dallas and Clara W. Smith and Richard of Columbus; eight grandchildren, John Achter, Shannon Moore, Erik Pardue, Ashley Patterson, Jaime Wood, Justin Smith, Dr. Lindsay Sammons and Jeffery Wood; three great-grandchildren, Madison Moore, Grayson Moore and Colton Patterson; three sisters, Hassieleen and Ernest Ward, Gertrude and Ed Thurmond and Lena Moss; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Madison Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Ross officiating. Interment was in Madison Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Madison Baptist Church.
