Mr. W.E. Shepherd Passes Wednesday

Wednesday morning at his home on north Main street occurred the death of Mr. W.E. Shepherd, after an illness of a year or longer.

 

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at three o'clock from the Madison Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Zach Hayes, assisted by Rev. W.S. Adams, of the Baptist church. There were many lovely flowers, and the services were largely attended.

 

Active pall bearers were Messrs. C.L.C. Thomas, Wood Richter, W.T. Bacon, T.H. Holland, Lem Baker, C.H. Baldwin. Honorary escort: Dr. Dan Carter, Logan Lanier, P.W. Walton, Jack Hanner, Jack Jones, Harry Lurey, Paul Rhodes, Shields Burney, Edgar Fears, Grady Atkinson.

 

Interment was in the family lot of Madison cemetery. W.C. Hemperley in charge.

 

The deceased was the son of William and Sarah Smith Shepherd, and was born in Linden, Texas, May 24th, 1864, being in the seventy-fourth year of his age. On Sept. 18, 1901, he was married in Cartersville, Ga., to Mrs. Bessie Jones Hack, who survives him, with a daughter, Mrs. Edna Shepherd Dorr, and two grand children, Billy and Oscar Dorr, and a half-brother, Mr. Joseph Vason.

 

The major portion of Mr. Shepherd's life was spent as a merchant in Madison, where he has served the people of this section for many years. He retired from active business several years ago.
