HOWARD CHESTER THOMAS

Howard Chester, 68, of Madison, died Sunday, October 28, 2007. Mr. Thomas was a native of Athens but had lived in Morgan County since age six. He was born March 5, 1939, to Howard Otis Thomas and Thelma Gresham Thomas. He went on to marry Joyce Siegler.


Mr. Thomas was a retired dairyman, having been an owner of the Bennett-Thomas Inc. He was also retired from Morgan County, after serving as Building Inspector. Though retired, Mr. Thomas continued to serve Morgan County as a county commissioner. Mr. Thomas was a member of Madison Baptist Church and the Morgan County Farm Bureau. He was an avid horseman, belonging to the Kel-Mac Saddle Club and the Chattahoochee Trail Horse Association. Mr. Thomas was also an active member of the Agriculture Alumni Board of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.


Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Joyce Siegler Thomas and their children, Dr. Lynda Thomas Bacon & Wade of Lawrenceville and Rev. Chet Thomas & Dusty of Flagler Beach, Fla. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Carl Bacon, Erica Bacon, Mary Joyce Thomas and Katherine Thomas, as well as, several nieces and nephews.


The family received friends Monday from 5 pm until 8 pm at A. E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service was held Tuesday at 2 pm at Madison Baptist Church. Interment followed in Madison Memorial Park. Dr. Jim Ross officiated, assisted by Rev. Chet Thomas. 


A. E. Carter Funeral Home, Madison, had charge of arrangements.
