EVAN LAWRENCE

                         WALKER Jr.      DRUELLYN GIBBS WALKER

One of Madison and Morgan County's best liked citizens died this week, Evan Lawrence Walker Jr.  A lifelong resident, Mr. Walker has served the city and county as commissioner and councilman, and served them well.

As manager of A&P Store for 43 years he was one of the town's most popular businessmen. He retired some years ago but he continued to make valuable contributions to his town and county through his generosity and courtesy.

Evan Walker was a fine citizen and lived up to a legacy of service set by a distinguished line of forebears.

Druellyn Gibbs Walker, 79, died Saturday, April 19, 1997, at her residence at 887 Park Lane, Madison. 


Mrs. Walker was born July 19, 1917, the daughter of the late Jeptha Atkinson Gibbs and the late Frances Malcolm Gibbs.


Mrs. Walker was a retired school teacher. She was married to the late Evan Lawrence Walker Jr.


She was a member of the D.A.R., Madison-Morgan Cultural Center, and the Retired Teachers Organization.


Graveside services were held Sunday, April 20, at four o'clock at Madison City Cemetery with the Reverend W.T. Booth and Dr. Jim Ross officiating.


Mrs. Walker is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lynn Walker Treadwell, a sister, Mrs. Gloria Hitchcock, Winder, two grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Mercer Treadwell, Duluth, and Ms. Ellen Treadwell, Madison. 


Simmons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
