Obituaries: About

Bessie Lee Walker, 88, of Madison died Saturday, October 30, 2004 at her home. She was born April 15, 1916 to Allen Candler and Janie Veale Cross. She was married to Littleton Harwell Walker Jr. and was a member of Godfrey United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her husband Littleton Harwell Walker Jr. and one son, George Whitfield Walker. A brother Ernest Candler Cross and a sister, Sara Mae Peden, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Jane and Joe Stoner of Atlanta and Judy and Danny Pace of Watkinsville, four grandchildren, Lelia Stoner and Edward Stoner, both of Vail, Colo., John Walker Thomas and Shelia of Madison and Candler Pace of Winder; four great-grandchildren, Emily Victoria and Caroline Thomas and Hunter Pace; a sister, Allene King of Macon and a nephew, Lawrence Cross of Madison.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at the chapel of A.E. Carter Funeral Home with John Walker Thomas officiating. Interment was in Madison City Cemetery. Pall bearers were Bobby Walker, Ricky Jones, Tom Peden, Allen King, Mike King anbd Corry Nunnally.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Godfrey United Methodist Church. A.E. Carter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
