Walter Wise Dies Suddenly in Florida

Walter W. Wise, a former Madisonian who has resided in Gainesville, Florida for the past twenty-seven years, died January 8, in Gainesville. Mr. Wise was 62 years old. He has been Custodian of the R.O.T.C. properties at the University of Florida. Mr. Wise was an active member of the Methodist Church.

He was born in Madison, the son of the late Edgar H. and Edith Webster Wise. He was educated in Madison schools and resided in Madison following his marriage to the former Annie Shepherd Baldwin. He moved to Florida with his family in 1944.

Aside from his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Mark Mason of Madison, and son, Mr. Walter W. Wise, Jr. of Melbourne Beach, Florida, a brother, Mr. Joseph Wise of Gainesville, Florida and a sister, Mrs. H.P. Bond of Atlanta, and five grandchildren, Walter WIse III, Peggy Miller, William Miller, Sarah Mason and Mary Mason. A brother, Mr. Edgar Wise, Jr. died several years ago. 

Funeral services were held at Madison Methodist Church on Monday morning at eleven o'clock. The Rev. Malcolm Coleman and the Rev. William Byington, pastor and former pastor of the church, officiated. Pall bearers were Joe Wise, Jr. of Gainesville, Florida, Jack Harris of Rome, Quillian Baldwin of LaGrange, Eugene Baldwin, Charles Baldwin and B.L. Tamplin. Burial was at Morgan Memorial park. Simmons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Annie Shepherd Baldwin Wise, 88, of Madison, died Friday, October 1, 1999, at Hospitality Care Center. She was born March 8, 1911 in Morgan County, the daughter of the late William Whitfield Baldwin and the late Sarah Quillian Baldwin. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Loyal Daughters Sunday School Class.

She was married to Walter W. Wise, Sr. who preceded her in death. Mrs. Wise is survived by a daughter Mrs. Edith Wise and her husband Mark Mason, Madison, a son, Mr. Walter W. Wise, Jr. and his wife Edith, Melbourne Beach, Florida, three sisters, Mrs. Lilias B. Turnell and Mrs. Sally B. Harris, both of Madison, and Mrs. Mary B. Harris, Rome, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday October 1 at First United Methodist Church, Madison, with the Reverend Layne Jenkins officiating. Interment was in Morgan Memorial Park. Simmons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangement.
